Our Services: Euthanasia

The word “euthanasia” derives from the Greek terms eu meaning good and thanatos meaning death.

The goal of companion animal euthanasia is to humanely release a pet from its body when significant suffering is unavoidable. The AVMA defines it as “ending the life of an individual animal in a way that eliminates pain and distress”.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know it’s the right time for euthanasia?
We know this is a hard decision. If your pet is in significant pain, not eating, or has lost quality of life, it may be time. We can help you assess their comfort level to make the best choice.
What happens during the euthanasia process?
First, we give your pet a gentle sedative to keep them calm. Once they’re relaxed, a final injection is given to allow them to pass peacefully, without pain.
Will my pet feel any pain?
No. The process is designed to be painless. We start with a sedative, so your pet is fully relaxed before the final injection.
Can I be with my pet during the process?
Yes. You’re welcome to be by your pet’s side for comfort and to say goodbye. We’re here to support you and answer any questions during this time.
What should I do to prepare at home?
Pick a quiet, comfortable spot where your pet feels safe. You may want to have their favorite blanket or toy nearby. We’ll take care of everything else.
How can I handle the grief of losing my pet?
Losing a pet is difficult. Consider talking to friends, family, or a pet loss support group. Some people find comfort in making a small memorial or tribute to honor their pet’s memory.
